ASPEN Close Play Park is now open.
The refurbished play area in Market Weighton had been closed since the flooding in June 2007 but was reopened by the town's mayor, Councillor Marian Frith.

Lou Adams, sport and play development manger at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: "This is a fantastic play area. There are a range of things that young people can do to help keep active.

"There is a great kick-about area and there are also different types of play equipment which are very physically challenging as well as the old favourites.

"The zip wire is something that young people in Market Weighton have specifically asked us for.

"This playground will make a considerable difference to keeping young people in Market Weighton active and healthy, and we hope they enjoy it."

Today the park will host an activity morning for the council to get feedback on the new site.

Community play workers and sports coaches will visit the park next week and ask children what they think about the changes.

Activities during the day will include juggling, football and face painting.

The morning is for children of all ages and is free of charge. It starts at 10am and children should be accompanied by a parent or carer. Call 07917326548 for more information.
