A HEADTEACHER has rung the bell on his career after nearly a decade at a Market Weighton School.
Ian Merryweather has bowed out on from Mount Pleasant Junior School and was showered with gifts from pupils and staff before breaking up for the Easter holidays.

Almost 60-years-old, he felt it was the best time to retire with the summer approaching, but admits he will miss the staff and pupils.
He said: "It was time to move on, I made the decision to spend more time with my family and my wife who is retiring as well.

"I can spend some time in the garden, on the golf course and I'm involved a lot with Beverley Minster.

"It's been absolutely terrific working here – it's a lovely school with lovely people who work tremendously hard.

"I've seen a lot of changes in the nine years I've been here but it's just been brilliant to work with everyone.

"I will really miss it, the team and the kids have been great. We've been very lucky to have a super bunch of children – they're very creative, sporty and musical and have been a pleasure to teach."

Originally from Teesside and now living in Beverley, Mr Merryweather taught at four schools in the Hull and East Riding area before landing the top job at Mount Pleasant.
