The death has occurred of Mrs Johanna Bell (Hanni) on the July 29.
Hanni died peacefully in Forrester’s Lodge, Bridlington in her 91st year.
The funeral service was held at St James’ Church, Lissett, conducted by Mr Malcolm Head.
The interment was in the churchyard, the organist was Mr Stephen Westaway.
Up until seven months ago, Hanni lived at her home ‘Veleda’ in Lissett.
She was the beloved wife of the late William (Bill) Bell.
Hanni was born in Cologne in Germany.
She met her husband during the war when he was in the army in Cologne.
Bill brought Hanni over to England in November 1947 to live with his parents in Lissett and Hanni and Bill were married at St James’ Church, Lissett on 7th February 1948.
Later Bill bought a plot of land in Lissett and went on to buy a railway carriage which was put on the land and they made it into their home.
Then Bill went on to build a house for them and a very good job he made of it.
The house was called ‘Veleda’.
That was the name of the street where Hanni lived in Germany.
When Hanni was younger she joined in all the activities going on in the village and made many friends.
She enjoyed a game of whist and loved watching tennis and snooker on the TV.
