Beverley Lions have handed over £500 to the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.

The money was raised from the annual New Years’ Day fun run organised by the Lions, and from the proceeds of a two-mile swim by Lion Robert Awty, himself a former guide dog owner.

The money was presented to the Beverley-based Hull Mobility Team of the charity’s York, East Riding and Lincolnshire branch.

The cost of breeding, training and keeping a guide dog throughout its lifetime is nearly £50,000 and the money will go towards that.
