AS owner of The Rocking Horse Shop and co-ordinator of Fangfest, our annual village festival celebrating practical crafts, I want to thank you for the coverage your newspaper has given us this year.
After last year we were delighted to be able to put on so many good attractions. The atmosphere throughout the weekend was festive and enjoyable.
Around 2,000 people came to see the pottery, furniture, chain-saw carving and rocking horse demonstra
tions, the many fine artists and craftspeople, the classic cars, children's arts and crafts, and the splendid display of hobbies.
They could have a go at shooting a black powder gun, solve the scent competition in Jubilee Park, ride a bucking steer or help build a giant hare. The weekend was topped off with a special church service followed by dancing in the street (one benefit of the Spittal Bridge closure!) to a live band at the Carpenters Arms.
The Fangfest committee works very hard to promote the show which is (as you reported recently) already an important event in the county calendar. Fangfest aims to provide a fun weekend which, as well as local businesses and organisations, benefits the church, the Macmillan nurses and several other charities who collect much needed funds.
Everyone declared this year's event to be a resounding success.
Not bad for a village which the ERYC has decreed to be 'unsustainable' and is pursuing policies which will ultimately destroy rural enterprises such as this and is sucking the life out of the village community.
