Sue Ryder Care is raising awareness of the services provided at its local neurological care centre Holme Hall for people living with Huntington's disease during Huntington's disease Awareness Week.
As part of the campaign I would like to launch an appeal to the local community for volunteers to help out with a variety of roles at the Holme-based care centre.
Sue Ryder Care Holme Hall is looking for volunteers to help in different department
s including volunteer drivers to help the healthcare team taking residents to doctor appointments, dental visits, days out trips; handy men and volunteers with IT skills to help the recreational team use the IT equipment available for residents at the care centre.
A flexible role, a person interested in volunteering can choose when and how much time they can commit.
People are invited to pop into the care centre for a visit or to give a call on (01430) 860904 to find out more about volunteering opportunities.
The Sue Ryder Care mission is to provide care that liberates lives to people living with a range of neurological conditions including Huntington's disease.
The Sue Ryder Care Holme Hall care centre provides specialised residential nursing care, respite and day care for people living with long term neurological conditions including multiple sclerosis, Huntington's disease, stroke, brain injuries and motor neurone disease.
Huntington's disease is a genetic disease which causes nerve cells in the brain to be damaged.
This damage can cause gradual physical, mental and emotional changes.
Unfortunately there is no cure available, but symptoms can be managed effectively to allow people to lead as normal a life as possible.
However for some people in the later stages of their condition, full nursing care is required.
Anyone interested in receiving more information or in making a donation to Sue Ryder Care can contact Robert Hall on (01430) 860904 or email robert.hall@suerydercare.org
