A FEAR of heights is not going to deter a Holme-on-Spalding Moor resident from taking to the sky for charity.

Laura Dixon, 22, was moved to organise some extreme fundraising after hearing the plight of child cancer sufferer Charlie Hook from Hull.

Six-year-old Charlie was diagnosed with an aggressive and difficult to treat cancer, stage 4 Neuroblastoma, in January last year and since then his family have been trying to raise the £300,000 needed to pay for specialist treatment in America.

Mum-of-two Laura wanted to help and is now planning a skydive at Brigg to raise money for Cash for Kids which is supporting Charlie’s fund.

She said: “I am actually terrified of heights, I’m petrified of them!

“But I thought I had to do something to help Charlie and decided to do something different to the usual sponsored walks and things.

“I am nervous about it, but I hope that what I’m doing will raise lots of money and awareness of what Charlie and his family are going through.”

Laura said that the Holme-on-Spalding Moor community has already rallied round, with shops displaying collection buckets and two local teenagers helping her raise money.

Her ‘Leap for Charlie’ is planned for 29 February and Laura hopes to raise as much as £1,000 for Charlie, whose aunty lives in Pocklington.

People can donate to Charlie’s appeal via the Cash for Kids website or at www.justgiving.com/Leap-for-charlie.

Collection buckets for Laura’s skydive can also be found at various shops in Holme-on-Spalding Moor and Pocklington or you can sponsor her via her facebook page.

Laura wished to thank Goole Gymnastics Club for hosting a fundraising ‘name the teddy’.

Charlie’s mum Nicola is also luanching a ‘Pay a Pound for Charlie Day’ on the day of Laura’s jump and if any company or school would like to get involved by holding events such as a non-uniform, dress up or dress down day, they can contact Cash for Kids on 01482 59319 and ask to speak to Claire.
