A LONG-RUNNING talent competition held in South Cave reached its conclusion recently with the winner claiming a whopping £2000 in prize money.

The Fox Factor, held at the Fox and Coney Inn, started in February and over the past few months nearly 100 hopefuls have sung their hearts out to try and win the cash prize.

The winner, Sara Thrustle, from West Hull, also won studio recording time which she hopes will take her career to the next stage.

The 29-year-old considered leaving the competition half way through when her mother sadly died, but she decided to continue in her memory.

She said: “My mum was my biggest fan. She was always encouraging me to sing and would have been shouting from the rooftops.

“I really didn’t know if I’d be able to continue when she died, but I am so grateful to have won, particularly after hearing some amazing performances from everyone else.”

The brains behind the competition and Fox Factor judge, Vince Garcia, a former music producer who now runs the Fox and Coney, said: “Sara has been consistently good throughout the competition.

“Her performances in the final were absolutely perfect and she will make a great recording artist. She has shown incredible bravery since her mother died.”

The final saw 13 competitors, who each sang two songs, battle it out in front of over 500 fans who attended the ticket-only, black-tie affair.

After a champagne reception the finalists were whisked to the event in a limousine, escorted up the red carpet and taken to the VIP area of the Fox Factor marquee.

Summer Rozenbroek, from Cottingham, just missed out on the top prize and won £500. Meanwhile, Tobias Sumpton, came third, winning £250.
