A MOTORIST has been fined £160 after pleading guilty to using a hand-held mobile phone while driving.
Last Friday, Bridlington Magistrates' Court heard that Mark Alexander, 33, of Thatcham, Berskhire, had pleaded guilty to using a mobile phone while driving and failing to produce his driving licence for examination.
The court was told that Alexan
der had been driving a Volkswagen Golf along Quay Road, Bridlington, on April 9 when he was spotted using his telephone by an on-duty police officer.
When stopped by the officer and asked why he was using his phone while driving, Alexander said he was lost and he was unable to produce his licence because he had lost it.
Alexander said: "It's silly, really, because I had a hands -free set but my car was broken into two weeks ago and it was ripped out.
"I now have a new hands-free set."
For failing to produce his licence for examination he was given three penalty points. He was also ordered to pay court costs of £40 and a victim surcharge of £15.
