POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a teenage cyclist from Beverley was seriously injured in a road accident near Bishop Burton last night, Thursday.
A Shiptonthorpe man, who was driving the car involved, was treated for shock at the scene of the incident on the A1079, which happened at around 10.40pm last night.
A police spokesman said an orange Fiat Punto was travelling towards Market Weighton from Beverley when it was in collision with a silver bicycle around a mile north of Bishop Burton.
The 18 year old male cyclist suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary, where he underwent surgery.
He was said to be in a critical but stable condition this morning.
The driver of the Punto, a 38 year old man from Shiptonthorpe, was treated by paramedics for shock.
Officers are keen to trace the driver of a JCB-type vehicle who may have passed the scene immediately prior to the incident, or anyone else who has information.
